UKTI announces Entrepreneur Festival to bring global talent to Britain

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) announced the launch of a new venture today aimed at boosting Britain’s community of young entrepreneurs with global ambitions. The  Entrepreneur Festival will offer final year students (BA/BSc level, Masters or Research degree programmes) and recent graduates from universities around the world an intensive induction into what it’s like to be a young entrepreneur in the UK.

Hosted in Manchester from 4-6 September, the Festival will bring budding entrepreneurs from a huge range of different countries together to learn about, and be mentored in, how to start a business in the UK. It will provide an opportunity to meet investors and inspirational mentors to get insight and advice, visits to UK businesses in a variety of sectors, and experience of working with peers from around the world to tackle practical business challenges.

The UK is one of the best places in the world to become an entrepreneur and we want to attract graduate talent into the UK to do just that, offering the guidance and support of the country’s entrepreneurial community, experts and specialist networks. If you’re a final year student or graduate and you have an exciting idea that you think one day will create a successful business, come to UKTI’s Entrepreneur Festival and find out how you can realise your ambition.

Carnegie UK Trust Competition – TestTown 2013

TestTown 2013 is an innovation competition open to 16-25 year olds to come up with original and creative ideas that they think could breathe life back into the high street. Applications will be accepted from this week until the beginning of May. The ten best ideas will be given a £1000 grant to open up their business for real in Dunfermline (our host town) and trade to customers for a long weekend in June. The winner of the competition will then be rewarded with £10,000 to develop their business further.

SIE Student Enterprise Summit 2012 – Thursday 22nd March

The Scottish Institute for Enterprise (SIE) is the national organisation for promoting and supporting enterprise and enterpreneurship in Scotland’s universities.

SIE wants to help students in Scotland discover their entrepreneurial talent and start up their own ventures. It is their mission is to help create new student businesses and social enterprises.

Be inspired and book yourself to attend their flagship event – The SIE Student Enterprise Summit – which returns to Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Thursday 22 March 2012, and features a packed programme of speakers who will talk about how they found their own unique path to success and what inspired them.

SIE Enterprise Day – Ayr Campus 17th November 2011

Are you a student or recent graduate interested in self employment, student enterprise and entrepreneurship? If YES, then this event is for you!

The Scottish Institute for Enterprise is running a pilot programme of Regional Enterprise Days, taking place in five locations across Scotland during November in Aberdeen, Dundee, Ayr, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Intended to inspire students to think about enterprise and entrepreneurship, they are open to all students and feature workshops on how to get started, innovation, and opportunities to put questions to business experts.

The Ayr Regional Enterprise Day provides a full day of workshops and enterprise activities to help raise awareness of student entrepreneurship and local opportunities.  Sessions take place at the Ayr Campus of the University of the West of Scotland (UWS).

“Getting Started” – 1.15pm -2.00pm
Meet young entrepreneurs running their own ventures and hear how they got started at university or on graduation. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and find out where to go for advice and support.

“What makes a good idea a good business idea?” – 2.00pm – 2.45pm
You have your good idea but now you are looking to turn that idea into a new venture that makes you money. This session will help you validate your good idea and decide whether you are on the right track for setting up a business.

“The Practicalities of Setting up a Creative Practice” – 3.00.pm – 3.45pm
This session will guide you through the steps involved in setting up a new creative practice, from how you actually go about it and finding the funding, to getting some traction in the market and developing your brand and reputation.

“Breaking the Rules” – 4.15pm – 5.00pm
An inspirational session from the Managing Director of one of Scotland’s most exciting and innovative Digital Agencies. Fatbuzz provide clients with a range of services including design, video production, marketing, social media and event management, Gordon will look at how innovations in media and digital design are changing the way people do business and communicate, and the opportunities this presents for entrepreneurs interested in creative industries and social media and marketing.

“Ask the Experts” – 2.00pm – 5.00pm
Throughout the afternoon there is the opportunity to meet advisers from PSYBT, Scottish Institute for Enterprise and UWS and get more information on setting up a business or feedback on your idea. Or simply pick up some information from their stands.
